Aurie Ceylon is a New York City–based director, choreographer, and arts leader with a deep-rooted love of musical theatre and a passion for creating imaginative, joyful, and dynamic theatrical experiences.
As a director and choreographer, Aurie is drawn to stories that invite audiences to dream, connect, and see the world a little differently. Her work spans musical theatre, youth theatre, and Theatre for Young Audiences, with a particular passion for creating collaborative rehearsal rooms where young artists can take creative risks, build community, and discover who and what they want to be in this world.
Alongside her work as a freelance theatre-maker, Aurie serves as Artistic Program Manager of Theatre for the Very Young at New York City Children’s Theatre, where she works closely with the artistic team on season development, show selection, artist collaboration, touring, and the creation of accessible theatre experiences for young children and families. She also brings experience in audience development, arts administration, production, education, and community partnerships.
Her directing and choreography credits include ANNIE, MATILDA JR., RENT: School Edition, FROZEN JR., ALADDIN JR., THE WIZARD OF OZ, and productions with TADA! Youth Theater and Bergen Performing Arts Center. Her professional performance credits include AMERICAN IDIOT (1st International/2nd National Tour), HAIR (Canada/US), THE LIGHTNING THIEF (National Tour), and GIRLS NIGHT at The Smith Center in Las Vegas.
A graduate of Howard University with a BFA in Acting, Aurie believes that theatre can be both wildly imaginative and deeply human—and that some of the most powerful stories are the ones that remind us how to dream.
